The Parrot’s Perch by Karen Keilt

The Parrot’s Perch by Karen Keilt

By Jaime Hypes on February 3, 2012

Greed, revenge, lust, government corruption, and mystery. These are all indicators of a fast-paced novel of suspense, and are all present in Karen Keilt’s debut novel The Parrot’s Perch. When Freddy Lauria gets entangled in the drug trade while a student at Harvard, he thinks he can put it all behind him when he moves back home to Brazil. However, Jack and Red, dirty cops who are on to Freddy, have a different plan when they follow him to the South American hotspot.

Review 165: Dressed for a Kill by Brian Bianco

Review 165: Dressed for a Kill by Brian Bianco

By Peter Hassebroek on October 1, 2010

Dressed for a Kill, Brian Bianco’s first novel, is a suspense / thriller with all the elements: a light read but complex storyline, fast pace, plot twists, and a slick cover. Yet while interesting and enjoyable in places, this is not as rewarding a read as it could be.

Review 158: Hit List by Darcia Helle

By LK Gardner-Griffie on July 29, 2010

What would you do if you came to visit your mother one day and found her huddled in the closet, rocking back and forth, clutching a baby blanket tightly in her hand? And how does the confused and fearful woman connect to a mafia like-gang, drugs, a baby ring, sleezy cops, and an unknown assasin?

Review 142: As the Twig Is Bent by Joe Perrone, Jr.

By LK Gardner-Griffie on March 26, 2010

For as long as I can remember, I have loved reading mysteries. The idea of discerning clues as I read the story and trying to come up with the answer before the detective does has always given mysteries a little extra spice for me.

Review 108: Death at Disney by Julio J. Vazquez

By LK Gardner-Griffie on September 4, 2009

From the very first word, Death at Disney evoked a strong sense of the 1950′s cop show, Dragnet.

Review 97: The Books of Curt Rowlett

Review 97: The Books of Curt Rowlett

By Shannon Yarbrough on July 22, 2009

For years, I was a true crime buff. I still possess more useless knowledge about some of America’s infamous serial killers than I care to admit to. Give me a good “true” ghost story or A&E/ Travel Channel historical haunting feature or reality ghost hunting show and I’m glued to the television for hours. So, when Curt Rowlett approached us with his three books devoted to mysteries, murder, and the occult, I immediately wanted to read all of them!

Review 94: Altered Life by Keith Dixon

Review 94: Altered Life by Keith Dixon

By Dan Marvin on July 10, 2009

I was excited to get my copy of Altered Life, a detective thriller from Keith Dixon. He was nice enough to send me a copy all the way across the pond and I dove into it the same day it arrived. The description on the Lulu page hooked me: ‘Altered Life transplants the attitude and pace of the American private eye story into a contemporary English setting.’
