Greed, revenge, lust, government corruption, and mystery. These are all indicators of a fast-paced novel of suspense, and are all present in Karen Keilt’s debut novel The Parrot’s Perch. When Freddy Lauria gets entangled in the drug trade while a student at Harvard, he thinks he can put it all behind him when he moves back home to Brazil. However, Jack and Red, dirty cops who are on to Freddy, have a different plan when they follow him to the South American hotspot.

Dressed for a Kill, Brian Bianco’s first novel, is a suspense / thriller with all the elements: a light read but complex storyline, fast pace, plot twists, and a slick cover. Yet while interesting and enjoyable in places, this is not as rewarding a read as it could be.

For as long as I can remember, I have loved reading mysteries. The idea of discerning clues as I read the story and trying to come up with the answer before the detective does has always given mysteries a little extra spice for me.

For years, I was a true crime buff. I still possess more useless knowledge about some of America’s infamous serial killers than I care to admit to. Give me a good “true” ghost story or A&E/ Travel Channel historical haunting feature or reality ghost hunting show and I’m glued to the television for hours. So, when Curt Rowlett approached us with his three books devoted to mysteries, murder, and the occult, I immediately wanted to read all of them!

I was excited to get my copy of Altered Life, a detective thriller from Keith Dixon. He was nice enough to send me a copy all the way across the pond and I dove into it the same day it arrived. The description on the Lulu page hooked me: ‘Altered Life transplants the attitude and pace of the American private eye story into a contemporary English setting.’
