One glimpse at the title of Sunni Morris’s book and you probably conjure up visions of Miss Havisham, a wealthy spinster living in her old mansion, penned by Charles Dickens back in 1861, wondering around in her old wedding dress and “looking like the witch of the place.”

For years, I was a true crime buff. I still possess more useless knowledge about some of America’s infamous serial killers than I care to admit to. Give me a good “true” ghost story or A&E/ Travel Channel historical haunting feature or reality ghost hunting show and I’m glued to the television for hours. So, when Curt Rowlett approached us with his three books devoted to mysteries, murder, and the occult, I immediately wanted to read all of them!

It seemed only fitting to start off our reviews this month with a frightening ghost story. Ghosts have always intrigued me from the days of checking out horror anthologies from the library again and again every Friday on library day in grade school. I spent one summer in junior high attempting to read every word Stephen King had ever written. Anne Rice, Poppy Z. Brite, and Rick Reed were some of my favorite horror authors in college. Also while in college, I took pride in living in a house believed to be haunted.
