Amazon Reveals What Our Novels in KDP Lending are Worth for First Month

Amazon Reveals What Our Novels in KDP Lending are Worth for First Month

By Shannon Yarbrough on January 13, 2012

As an author whose books are available on Kindle, I often feel like I’m left in the dark when it comes to finding out important information when I visit the KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) dashboard and check out the Amazon FAQ sections or even the Kindle community forum. I often find good information, but just enough about the big highlights, and never an answer to my real question. I feel like Jeff Bezos is the man behind the curtain, or a magician and maybe I’m just giddy with excitement over what the outcome will be. Patience, Shannon, patience!

C’mon Amazon, Light My Fire!

C’mon Amazon, Light My Fire!

By Shannon Yarbrough on November 1, 2011

Is November here already? That means only 15 days till the release of Amazon’s Kindle Fire, their android based tablet available for pre-order for $199. It’s the first color version of Kindle, despite it really just being an iPad with Amazon’s name on it for half the price and obviously intended to rival the Nook which has been in color for quite some time now.

Who Needs a Publisher Anyway?

Who Needs a Publisher Anyway?

By Shannon Yarbrough on August 2, 2010

Check out this article by Isia Jasiewicz from The Books Issue of Newsweek (first posted only July 30th, 2010): Boyd Morrison was finishing a Ph.D. in industrial engineering when he wrote his first novel. Five agents rejected it. Nine years later he tried again, and this time he did get an agent—after nearly three years [...]

Kindle My PC

Kindle My PC

By Shannon Yarbrough on July 24, 2010

As the market and competition starts to catch up with Amazon.com’s Kindle, it’s no surprise to see that they expanded their E-book availability beyond the Kindle device and also lowered the cost of the devices themselves .

Amazon Loves…err, Loved Short Shorts

Amazon Loves…err, Loved Short Shorts

By Shannon Yarbrough on May 8, 2010

Back right around the time when Amazon.com first bought CreateSpace, and Kindles were still on the drawing board, Amazon came up with a brilliant idea called Amazon Shorts. This program gave authors a chance to upload short stories and sell them for .49 cents each, and gave authors like me the chance to rake [...]

B&N’s Nook eBook Reader is Here!

By Shannon Yarbrough on October 21, 2009

Well, we wondered how long it would take before someone else entered the Ereader race with Sony and Amazon. This week, we got our answer! For the past year, Amazon has owned the market with its Kindle, Kindle Deluxe, and the release this week of a new Kindle with U.S. and International Wireless access. With the latest version, Kindle also went global.

Kindle 2 is here!

Kindle 2 is here!

By Shannon Yarbrough on February 24, 2009

Today marks a day on the E-Calendar that many of us have been talking about the past year. It quite literally snuck up on us overnight, but the Kindle 2 is here and became available today. With 37 reviews already (the majority posted yesterday), it’s averaging 3.5 stars with a mixture of emotions all across the board. 17 reviews give it 5 stars, 11 are stuck in the middle, and 9 give it only 1 star.

POD Diary Update: My First Amazon Kindle Royalty Payment

POD Diary Update: My First Amazon Kindle Royalty Payment

By Shannon Yarbrough on November 13, 2008

Many of us are still boycotting Amazon due to the huge Booksurge/POD war that has been taking place this year. Many of us have moved forward and tried to find other venues for selling our books outside of Amazon. I hope it’s paying off for those of you out there pounding the pavement.
