The subtitle of Marc Zirogiannis’s book is A Guide to Life Outside the Asylum. I admit it was this subtitle that immediately caught my interest. After reading the preview, I decided to to commit to reading the full book. The manuscript is packed into only 78 pages, which is a bit unfortunate because there is a lot of good material here which I believe the author could build upon in order to give us a more full bodied story.

For years, I was a true crime buff. I still possess more useless knowledge about some of America’s infamous serial killers than I care to admit to. Give me a good “true” ghost story or A&E/ Travel Channel historical haunting feature or reality ghost hunting show and I’m glued to the television for hours. So, when Curt Rowlett approached us with his three books devoted to mysteries, murder, and the occult, I immediately wanted to read all of them!

As a grandfather to five grandchildren, aged seven to ten, I was interested to learn what this book has to offer in the way of advice on how to be a grandparent. The answer is it has much to offer. The two authors offer great insight with ideas and suggestions that should be beneficial to any grandparent, but especially to the new grandparent.

I love Carolyn Howard-Johnson’s Frugal Book Series. The first two (The Frugal Book Editor and The Frugal Book Promoter) are must-haves for any self-published author! Her latest is geared toward retailers, primarily independent business owners, but I jumped at the chance to review it only because I knew I’d find something I could use toward my own book marketing and indeed I did.

Crosswords, acrostics, logic problems, word search, all of these were a big part of my youth. I could spend hours with a puzzle book figuring out the answers and filling them in. Sudoku had not yet come into vogue, or I’m sure I would have spent many a pleasurable hour working on those as well. With More Kindergarten Sudoku: 4×4 Classic Sudoku Puzzles for Kids
I got my first taste of Sudoku and was able to enjoy for the first time what has become all the rage in puzzle books. For the other Sudoku novices in the audience who have been wondering what this is but afraid to try and learn the rules, fear no more.

With tomorrow being Presidents Day and with a new leader in the White House this year, I felt the need to search Lulu for a good book devoted to our presidents, and I actually found several. However, Neal Finkelstein’s book held my attention the most. Despite the lackluster book cover which resembles a photo album or guest book for a baby shower, US Presidents Fun Facts proves you can’t judge a book by its cover.

I’ve always been a fan of giving books as gifts during the holidays. An “orphan tree” at work, where you pick paper ornaments off the tree displaying a list of items wanted by a child in a local orphanage or care facility and purchase the items as a donation, has given me the opportunity to buy books for a child in need for about the past four years at work. Luckily, my niece also likes to read and books are often on her wish list as well. I say this because my most recent Lulu find, a book called Max & Huber by Dale Kilgore, would make the perfect gift for a young reader.

Although our “Search for America” ended last month, I’d like to revisit it for a moment to tell readers about another book. Although this blog is devoted strictly to books published through Lulu, this particular book was not. However, it is still a POD title, and its author runs another POD review site that has been in existence for over two years.

A recent fascination with my own backyard birds has led to a fun summer hobby. I now have six bird feeders in my yard, and have purchased 3 various books all about birds. I even made a trip to the zoo recently well, just for the birds. So, I immediately began searching Lulu for good bird books. Although I found several-mostly coffee table photo type books-one of the best is called BIRDS, and it’s put out by a publisher calling itself TheTeachersDesk.info.
