Win a Free Copy of Recollections!
Earlier this week we reviewed Jim Chamber’s book, Recollections: A Baby Boomer’s Memories of the Fabulous Fifties.
Jim was so thankful for the review he gave the LLBR more copies of his book!
Since it is the time to be thankful, we’re going to give our readers a chance to win a copy of this outstanding book that looks back at history and at one man’s memories of the 1950s.
National Novel Writing Month – November 1st-30th
Many of you know it as NaNoWriMo for short and it’s fast approaching! While the official site is more of a support blog offering forums, hints, tips, and more, it’s been going strong for 10 years. Participants begin on November 1st with only one goal in mind: write a 175 page novel (at least 50,000) words in one month. It’s more about enthusiasm than craft, and yes, much of the work written will be “crap.” But here is NaNoWriMo’s answer for why you should do it anyway…
Briefs for the Reading Room featured on Fox 56 in Kentucky

Mooch Before You Buy: An Experiment in Generosity
John Buckman is one of my favorite people. For over a year now I have been a member of and passionately promoted his website called BookMooch. BookMooch is an online book swapping community where you list books you want to give away to gain points to mooch books you want from other members. You earn more points from members who mooch books from you. The only expense is the cost to ship your own mooched books. To date, I have given away almost 80 books on BookMooch and received 62 other books I wanted to read.
Review 90: A Retailer’s Guide To Frugal In-Store Promotions by Carolyn Howard-Johnson
I love Carolyn Howard-Johnson’s Frugal Book Series. The first two (The Frugal Book Editor and The Frugal Book Promoter) are must-haves for any self-published author! Her latest is geared toward retailers, primarily independent business owners, but I jumped at the chance to review it only because I knew I’d find something I could use toward my own book marketing and indeed I did.
The Publetariat Vault: Official Press Release
The Publetariat Vault brings literary works already proven in the commercial marketplace to the direct
attention of acquisitions pros, thereby reducing their risk. For authors, this means no query, no agent, no
“connections” are needed.
Amazon’s New Author Central Pages
Have any other authors out there received an email from Amazon saying your new Author Central page is ready? I received mine earlier this week. I immediately signed in to take a look. I added a picture, a biography, and also updated my bibliography to include the books that LuluPress has listed on Amazon now including an early chapbook of my poetry I put together in 2006 as a gift for my Mom and Dad.

Celebrating Teen Lit Day
YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Assocation) which is the fastest growing division of the ALA (American Library Association) decided in 2007 to create a Support Teen Literature Day in conjunction with ALA’s National Library Week, which occurs during the month of April. This concept has really covered some ground in the past two years, and we are quickly approaching the 3rd annual Support Teen Literature Day on April 16th. Support Teen Literature Day occurs each year on the Thursday of National Library Week.
