I recently upgraded my Kindle to an iPad about three weeks ago. I’ve been blogging about the iPad on my author blog, but I thought I’d cross post the information here for those who are interested. Here’s my first post from March 13th of this year:

Wow! What a story! This is a true account about a family during the Vietnam War and the rise of Communism. This powerful story is told by one of the daughters of the family. The writing in this memoir is excellent and contains many bits of history as well as family stories.

Have you ever obsessed about something so much in life that it was impossible to explain your odd obsession to anyone else without them probably giving you a funny look or rolling their eyes at you? Or has there ever been anything in life that you just had to do for yourself (or possibly for someone else) despite the possibility of any repercussions from others?

I can’t say I fully grasp why the title Past; Tense was chosen for the second story, let alone the entire collection. A double-, triple-, or even quadruple-entendre I imagine, involving grammatical tenses, emotional tension, and chronology. Its phonetic awkwardness does foreshadow Joe Harding’s collection as literary fiction; yet these ten well-written, well-edited stories, narrated in ten unique voices, are surprisingly accessible.

What a wonderful concept of healing the world using magic. The prologue has many interesting threads giving us a taster of what is to come – loved it!

I took a chance on Cindy C. Bennett’s Geek Girl mostly for two reasons. It didn’t have any vampires. And it seemed like a book that teaches acceptance among teen peers, and I think that’s an important subject these days after all of the school bullying we’ve seen in the headlines. Our narrator is Jen Jones, a seventeen year old “goth” girl who is a foster child living with the Clarks.
