At less than 200 pages, you’d think I could get through Cheryl Anne Gardner’s latest book in a day. Having read and reviewed her two previous novellas, I knew I better clear at least a week from my reading schedule to devote my time and attention to her work. Logos took two weeks, as I devoted one single evening to each chapter. Each page is packed with detailed prose, and poetry even, that reads like Psalms from the Bible. I believe her protaganist, Selena, says it best in the first chapter:

Barnes & Noble unveiled a new full-color, touchscreen version of its Nook e-reader Tuesday in New York City.
The new version, priced at $249, will begin shipping on or around Nov. 19, and is now available for pre-order. Unlike Barnes & Noble’s current Nooks, the new one won’t have a 3G network connection. It will only be able to get online through Wi-Fi.

This past weekend while out of town visiting family in Tennessee, I learned about the death of an old friend. Bookstar, a landmark where my publishing roots started and where I first started working in books, is closing its doors December 31st of this year. Bookstar was bought out by B&N in the early 90s. It may not look like a B&N on the outside based on the picture, but you definitely knew it when you stepped inside.

This Fall marks the release of my own new book, Are You Sitting Down?, which is already available on Kindle. Unfortunately, the paperback edition is still weeks away, but at this point in the industry, I’m not rushing it. I’ve already made more of a niche for myself amongst E-Readers at this point in my writing career, more so than I will probably ever see in paperback sales alone. And I’m not alone. We’ve soapboxed enough about the Kindle, but in case you still aren’t convinced by the E-movement, then check out this story from author J.A. Konrath: eBooks and The Ease of Self-Publishing. Today marks the Kindle release of Draculas, a horror novel that he wrote with Blake Crouch, Jeff Strand, and F. Paul Wilson.

Quinton, all I can say is…what an unusual story taken from an intriguing perspective! It was certainly thought-provoking. A clever idea, written in a clear, personal style. A good way to promote your message

We all have a soapbox. Whether or not we choose to use it is up to us, and often left up to the situation and how vocal, or ‘PC,’ we are. In the office, I tend to be reserved. I avoid water cooler discussions about religion and politics like the plague. What did you think of last night’s episode of Glee? Let’s talk. Anything else, and I’m walking the other way. Yes, I have an opinion and I totally accept the fact that being vocal about it is sometimes the only way to make change. I salute you picketers marching on Washington!
