Ten days ago Jim Chambers, author of Recollections, was so generous in giving LLBR two copies of his book to offer as a give away this month. We asked those interested to post their favorite memory or something they were thankful for to enter for a chance to win. And today, we have our two winners…

I dare you not to like Stubbs and Bernadette by Levi Montgomery. Double dog dare you! This book made me late for work on more than once, its that hard to put down. There is something so compelling and sweet about the way that Montgomery describes Bernadette, you just want to shield her from the world. Bernadette in this case is Bernadette Elsbeth McIntyre and the name is bigger than the girl that wears it. She is described as a waif, an elf, a sixteen-year-old in a twelve-year-old’s body and you’ll be able to immediately picture her. There was always someone in everyone’s High School that resembles her. She is the artsy girl, the one that doesn’t dress just right, the one that never quite fit in.

What would life be like if you were a 39 year old man plagued with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and Asperger’s Disorder? What would happen if your routines were upset and suddenly life seemed to be spiraling out of control?

For those who might have missed it, best selling author John Grisham was on the Today show this morning to plug his new book, Ford County, but also had a thing or two to say about the recent web war with book pricing that’s been taking place amongst Amazon, Wal~Mart, B&N, and Target. He believes printed books are an endangered species and that the surge in popularity of EBooks isn’t helping.

Just over a week ago when I posted my NaNoWriMo ramblings on Day 13, you probably would have guessed that I was a lost cause. But being one to never give up, I was determined not to let the looming word count of NaNoWriMo get the best of me. I was on vacation last Friday and sat down for my three day weekend with plenty of coffee and determination to catch up. I was only 7,000 words behind the suggested goal. Easy as pie!

Earlier this week we reviewed Jim Chamber’s book, Recollections: A Baby Boomer’s Memories of the Fabulous Fifties.
Jim was so thankful for the review he gave the LLBR more copies of his book!
Since it is the time to be thankful, we’re going to give our readers a chance to win a copy of this outstanding book that looks back at history and at one man’s memories of the 1950s.

Sweet Serene by Robert Hedges
What a great start to what seems a fantastic story routed in the character Sunday. I liked the style and particularly liked the mystery.
A fabulous first book.

I have to admit I haven’t always been a fan of history. And even today I find myself more intrigued by the events our history books left out, or the people of our pasts who are just as important but less celebrated. The fabulous fifties were my parent’s era, not mine. But what attracted me to Jim Chambers’ book was actually two things: the cover and the fact that it’s a personal memoir (although Jim says it’s not!) and not just a historical account.

By today, I should be over 21,000 words to be on track according to the NaNo Calendar. I hate to admit it, but I’m just over 14,000. Cheryl Anne Gardner over at PodPeep recently posted about quality vs. quantity, and I totally agreed with her from the start. The word count target on the calendar [...]
