Amanda Cross Volume One by Joe Sargent
I was instantly hooked to the great mix of action and description all done in a snappy style, tone and form. Phrases like ‘hovering off the ground’ and ‘disappearing like a ghost’ set within the literal and figurative fog, gave instant insight into the main character in that they gave a sense of the mysterious, most especially the sentence, ‘This was just the way she liked it’.
There was terrific build up of suspense between the ‘crouching man’ and the ‘jogging woman’, the pace of which had me wanting more. Great prologue, cleverly done, unexpected!!!
So, unable to resist turning the page, the change of perspective and time kept me on my toes yet it didn’t take away the sheer enjoyment of such good writing. A great way of giving ‘character background’ without becoming boring.
A recommended read.
Well done.

Cave of Discovery by Steven and Margaret Larson
I do love books that go straight into action.
Cave of Discovery had good, clear description and was an enjoyable read. It had an intriguing, great start – everyone likes the idea of treasure.
Liked the use of dialogue to move the story forward, a great tool I use myself.

Wow, talk about straight into the action!
Fast pace, terrific lines giving us instant insight into the personalities…’the weariness in his voice betraying his decades of service…’
Good lead into what may happen.
I’m curious about how it was researched?!

A Pocket Full of Poesy by Suzanne Strong
I happened to notice A Pocket Full of Poesy by Suzanne Strong and thought it a good idea to comment on something other than novels.
Beauty Divine, the first poem of the collection, had so many levels but I will only talk of my immediate response. My first impression was that it wasn’t about a plant at all but a person whose harsh life had moved to an even harsher death. ‘Down to a solitary green stem’ brought to mind someone who was in the last stages of cancer – such sadness.
Still, the poem had hope, as if in death (whether a plant or person) there is life around the corner, though to me it was filled with hurt.
I don’t read that much poetry so I may be completely off track but I will say it was a powerful and emotional string of words.
Constant, the second poem made me smile though I still feel there was an aura of sadness about it.
Poetry of course is like music, helping us dance with those difficult emotions that roll around inside waiting for release.
Poignant indeed but well constructed and certainly something about which to think.
