Today marks a day on the E-Calendar that many of us have been talking about the past year. It quite literally snuck up on us overnight, but the Kindle 2 is here and became available today. With 37 reviews already (the majority posted yesterday), it’s averaging 3.5 stars with a mixture of emotions all across the board. 17 reviews give it 5 stars, 11 are stuck in the middle, and 9 give it only 1 star. Here are a few of the perks of the Kindle 2 listed in one of the 4 star reviews…
- Improved battery life (25% more to be exact)
- 20% faster page refreshing
- A text-to-speech feature which reads books aloud (a topic of early controversy)
- The overall thickness has been reduced to 0.36 inches (9.1 millimeters)
- More storage (now holds roughly 1500 titles instead of just 200 or 1.4 Gigabytes)
- Improved display (clearer reading, less headaches)
- Keep in mind the Kindle 2.0 has done away with any SD memory card slots
- Whispersynch (a new technology that allows you to synch two or more Kindles)
I, myself, have heard kudos for the smaller page turning buttons located down the sides. On Kindle 1, the buttons took up the entire margins which made it too easy to hit them by accident causing you to turn pages.
Those 1 star reviews have been conveniently tucked out of view today, but click on the “1 star” and they will come into view if you care to read them.
As an E-author, I’m just happy to see the Kindle available again…new and improved or not. These last two months have been my slowest in Kindle sales ever since Kindle 1 went out of stock right after Christmas.
For readers out there wanting to jump on board the E-train, the Kindle 2 is just $359.00. And for authors wanting to get on board as well, it costs nothing to publish and you can earn 35% royalties. Sign up here!
