A small arm appeared from under the bed, the first indication of movement during the dark midnight hour. A glassy eye blinked further back. Santa Barbara Mindy and Fluffy Heart Bear cautiously looked at one another. Their careful plan had been hatched over the last several nights.

In yesterday’s post about an article in the Times I failed to mention the POD success story of Lisa Genova. Lisa tried desperately to find a traditional publisher for her book, Still Alice. After many failed attempts, she opted to self-publish the book with iUniverse and began selling copies out of the trunk of her car. Simon and Schuster ended up picking up the book last year on a half million dollar contract and Still Alice hit the NYT Bestseller list this month!

We begin February with the Superbowl on Sunday. So what, right?
Writers can kick off the month by entering Amazon.com’s ABNA (Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award) contest on Monday, the 2nd. For those who are regulars to the blog, you might remember my November post about ABNA.

The New York Times published a very interesting and thorough article yesterday about the growth of the POD industry and how traditional markets are even suffering.

Good news today! My end of the month payments for Amazon Kindle and Associate sales came through for November. As a reminder, payments for a month are made 60 days after the end of that month. My total earnings for November were $102.78.
Total money invested on this project to date (after book sales only): $233.86 (debt)
Profit made to date on this project after all sales and services: $177.06

Like everyone else, I’m tired of turning on the TV these days and hearing the sad stories about the out of control job losses Americans are suffering from thanks to our dying economy. For that very reason, I can’t stomach to sit through a news broadcast. And that’s if I’ve even turned on the TV at all after coming home in the evening. I’m quite thankful to have a job, but it’s scary to think about what would happen if that changed tomorrow. I know the hard times are a sad truth we must deal with, but seeing it on the news every single morning and night does not help.

Happy New Year! It’s been quite a while since I updated. Outside of patiently waiting to see if I’ll make the first cut in the Lambda Literary Awards, not much has happened. I don’t think I’ll know anything till March, and the winners aren’t announced till June anyway.

I thought I’d take just a moment to let everyone know where each of the eight books are and current travel plans for the books.
Book 1
The Purple line started off in Garden Grove, CA and then traveled to Bayfield, CO, a trip of 801 miles, so that it could go to school with Keely in Durango, CO and was shared with her class. That brought the total mileage of the book up to 828 miles. Miss Pam’s class decided to send the book to another class in Montreal, QC. And the book is currently traveling and trying to get through Customs to get to the classroom in Canada. Once it arrives, the total mileage for the Purple line will be 2,175 miles. Wow! It is also exciting to have one of the books travel to another country. So far Book 1 has been read by 5 people.
