The POD Diary – October 22nd-29th, 2008

October 22nd: After yesterday’s post, I visited my Amazon listing for both the book and the Kindle version only to discover I had received another 5 star review which was posted on the 16th by Bob Lind, a top 1,000 Amazon reviewer.  Click here to read the review.  I don’t know who Bob is, but he apparently read my first book as well.  Thanks, Bob, for the kind words!

October 29th: After some light correspondence with an Amazon rep via email, I have discovered that I will be receiving my first payment for Kindle sales at the end of this month.  Apparently, they don’t pay you for a month until you accumulate at least $10.00 in sales.  I started uploading my books to the Kindle format back in May.  Sales were very light from May through July.  STEALING WISHES was uploaded in June but I did not have my first sale of it until July.  These three months combined did not equal $10.00.  But August was a great month!  If I totaled things correctly, I should received almost $90.00.

The bad part about all this is that you don’t receive payment until 60 days after that month has ended, which is why I’m just now being paid for May, June, July, and August.  The good news is September was also a great month, so there will be another payment at the end of November.  October has been the same so I can look forward to another payment at the end of December.  I’m really looking forward to whittling away at the numbers (see the October 21st post above for my latest investment total).

So, once you get through the initial 60 day waiting period and have totaled at least $10.00 in sales, if your book continues to sell then you can look forward to a monthly deposit into your checking account.  I know many of you out there are still boycotting Amazon because of the whole Booksurge ordeal, but you are also missing out on a huge opportunity!  More on this later…
